Hi all.
I want to start this topic with a conversion i'm doing in these days.

You know one of my thematic is 1979 cars.
I want to convert Mclaren M29 1980 in Mclaren m29 1979 (also because there isn't it in diecast

so from

to

Image Image

as you can see main differences in rollbar, cockpit, sidepods rear wing

I want also to put driver inside, Patrick Tambay! ;) ;)

the base model is Mclaren m29 from Solido 1:43

Image

first step:

Image

Image

modify and level the body (under rollbar) and the cockpit (with tamiya putty)

Image

primer and first decal to the edge of the cockpit

Image

decal fluo-red (marl***o style) + driver inside (and painting cockpit) + rollbar

Image

sidepods

Image

painting driver and decals

Image

engine with tameo net (also used for holes under sidepods)

Image

rear wing

[/quote]

last future step tambay helmet and some few details (like rivets)

Good job ! But don't forget to erase the "EAGLE" markings on the tyres !
It is a conversion I've planed to make too because I want to have the first F1 car tested by Alain Prost at the end of 1979 season. The M29 exists only in kit by Western Models but the Solido is the better base for now IMO.

Salut à tous >>
La M29 de Spark n'est pas une bonne base ?????

Thank you for the suggestion! I will erase them!

I think solido is the best base....also better then spark (it has the nose to much squat, large....and the helmet to much small and low in the cockpit)....and also i'm afraid to change a spark model!! (to much expensive to ruin it! :o :o )

Yes, I agree totally, the Spark models (besides their high price) are very difficult to convert, almost impossible to unsettle with parts strongly stuck.

Nice but most of the season the engine was not visible on the M29 in '79. I've read that it's Alain Prost who noticed that the car was faster without the engine fairing when he tested the M29 on the Paul Ricard at the end of 1979. It's why they removed it on the M29B in 1980. Anyway on one of your photos of the 79 Tambay car, it seems the fairing was not present.

yes you are right (and very interesting story about Prof. Prost!!! :o ), but because in solido model engine is visible, i decide to realize 1979 m29 without bodywork.
so...the model probably represents well this foto

tabac decal, + tambay + engine visible! 8-)

With the same sheet of decals (from Decals Museum) used for Massa brasilian conversion you can have decals for Webber driver for Singapore gp 2013 (when Alonso did taxi for Webber in the last lap, back to the pits)
For the body of the sitting driver i used one bought at novegro trade and i modified it to have the right position.
Then decals + some little improvements for the Ferrari, such as white stripes Pirelli tyres or little decals or fluo yellow for the bolts (and i could have bigger improvements with a Tameo sheet of decals for the Ferrari)

Ferrari F138 - F. Alonso - M. Webber - Singapore GP 2013
